Our President's Message
It is was a great honor and pleasure to welcome several hundred people to our annual Chanukah celebration and Menorah lighting ceremony. Chanukah has become a potent national, cultural and symbolic holiday. Along with friends and neighbors of all faiths and all walks of life, we gather to hear and remember the miracles of the past that have become the foundation on which we build our lives today. It is our goal to keep Jewish History, culture, and religion, alive so that it is relevant and meaningful to each individual Jew and, in fact, to the entire world.
I would like to thank Miriam Jersky chair of the ritual committee, Sheldon Skurow and everyone who made this celebration possible.
It is also a pleasure for me to announce that Temple Shalom of Central Florida has been formally approved to be a member of the URJ (Union of Reform Judaism). Our affiliation with this dynamic national organization affords us many opportunities to enrich our religious and educational programs, grow our Temple leaders and plan for our future.
Our relationship with the URJ will enable our Sisterhood to affiliate with the WRJ and our Brotherhood with the BRJ. Both of these organizations will be of vital help and interest. We will be developing an Adult Education program for our congregants to start in the early spring.
Being members of the URJ offers us ways and means become an even more vibrant, healthy congregation in all aspects of Jewish life so we can better serve our members and our community, and be a beacon of Jewish life in Central Florida.
